Family
Family is so important to me! This summer was a big change as we added a new little guy to our family. Theodore (Teddy), joined us on July 15th, 2019. I also have a wonderful 4 year old daughter named Juniper and an amazing husband named John. John is an 8th grade math teacher at JHMS, so someday you may have him, too! My parents and my one older brother, sister in law and my niece and nephew live in Washington, so we visit them a lot during breaks from school. Another big part of our family are our two dogs, Rudy and Bodie. They are both shelter dogs, so we aren't sure their exact breed, but they sure are sweet and fun. I look forward to telling you even more fun stories about my family throughout the year. |
What does Mrs. Hoogestraat like to do? When I'm not in school, one of my favorite things to do is spend quality time with John and Juniper. I also love being outdoors and getting exercise! My favorite summertime hobbies include mountain biking, road biking, trail running, hiking and camping with my family. In the winter, I love to backcountry ski and skate ski. I also grew up playing soccer, and still love to play for fun. Aside from sports, one of my favorite year round hobbies is cooking! I love to try new recipes and eat delicious food. I also love traveling to new places and learning about other cultures. Last but not least, I love reading! |
Where is Mrs. Hoogestraat from?
I was born in St. George, UT, but spent most of my childhood in Richland, WA. I attended college at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA where I majored in Communication, minored in English, played soccer and met my husband! My husband also played soccer for the men's team, so we both have a love for the game. After college, I lived in Anchorage, AK and then moved to Oregon where I went back to school to get my masters in teaching. My husband and I lived in Bend, OR for a few years and loved it...until we discovered Jackson! We moved from Bend to Teton Valley the summer of 2010. I began teaching at Colter in the fall of 2010 and started as an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher. I taught ESL for 3 years to 3rd graders. After teaching ESL I began teaching mainstream 3rd grade at CES and taught 3rd grade for 4 years. Two years ago, I switched to teaching 2nd grade and loved it! I look forward to spending another great year with a fantastic group of second graders. |
